Get the transcript of any YouTube video and download its subtitles as SRT, TXT or VTT. Paste the link, pick a language and the text shows up on screen to read or copy. No sign-up, nothing to install.
How to download subtitles from a YouTube video
- Copy the video link (Shorts work too).
- Paste it above and press Get subtitles.
- Pick the language. You’ll see the full transcript and buttons to download it as SRT, TXT or VTT.
Creator, automatic and auto-translated subtitles
- By the creator: uploaded by whoever published the video. The most reliable.
- Automatic: generated by YouTube’s speech recognition, in the video’s original language. Names and punctuation are often off.
- Auto-translated: YouTube translates the automatic captions into dozens of languages. Good for understanding a video, not for publishing as is.
Which format to pick
- TXT: plain text, no timestamps. What you want to read, summarise or quote a transcript.
- SRT: text with timestamps. Opens in VLC, video editors and almost any player.
- VTT: the web subtitle format, the one YouTube itself uses.
Limits, stated plainly
- If the video has no creator subtitles and YouTube hasn’t generated automatic ones (videos without speech, or very recent uploads), there is nothing to download.
- Private and age-restricted videos can’t be read.
- YouTube only. For TikTok or Instagram audio there is TikTok and Instagram audio to MP3.
